melaka: the streets

It was drizzling lightly when we first arrived in the morning and after that, it was very hot weather throughout both days. Walking under the scorching sun, with no shelter and hardly any trees, i was tired and perspired like mad. Back at the hotel at night, my skin was all red and felt as if it was burning. Nevertheless, it was a good trip and i still love walking on the streets of Malacca.

A famous shop that sells local snacks and food products.

A typical coffeeshop.

Looking through the window of Stadthuys Museum.

Maybe i should have carried an umbrella just like them... only if i was without a camera.

Floral pants and tops in fashion.

A famous Teochew Restaurant with the kitchen right at the entrance. To dine here, one must make reservations in order to get a table. i am missing the dark sauce noodle from here, it’s the best i’ve ever eaten.

It was early in the morning and i definitely stood out on the empty street. Thus, both motorists were looking in my direction.

We parked our car at the alley (the hotel carpark) next to this building.

melaka: 88

If you have time for only one meal stop in Malacca, then i would definitely recommend Jonker Dessert 88 (also known as The Museum Cafe). Aside from the popular (and delicious, of course) Nyonya Assam Laksa and Chendol dessert, they also have a wonderful collections of antiques (or junks, to some people) that makes the place an interesting visit.

The humble shop front. On weekends, prepare to see long queues (one on each side of the stalls) outside the entrance.

The noodle stall on the right.

On the left is the dessert stall.

The popular chendol dessert. My sis loves this and it’s her must-eat dessert every trip.

Since i can’t take coconut milk, i had the ice-kachang instead. And yes, it’s really yummy! The thick gula melaka syrup (palm sugar) that they used tasted heavenly.

The super yummy Nyonya Assam Laksa – thick vermicelli, tuna, hard-boiled egg, prawn, beancurd skin & onion.

The place is usually packed on weekends. i was glad that we went on a Friday, it was quiet and relax. On weekends, it can be quite stressful to take pictures with people standing around waiting for seats.

melaka: ruins on the hill

My favourite must-visit historical site in Malacca – the ruins of St. Paul’s Church.

On the way up the hill. A cat was suntanning on a lazy Friday afternoon.

The final steps to the top of the hill.

St. Francis Xavier statue.

Built by the Portuguese in 1951, Nossa Senhora da Annunciada (the original name) became a fortress years later. After the Dutch siege it, the name was changed to St. Paul’s and became a burial ground.

Don’t you think that the shape of the leaves made this photo looked like water reflection?

Interesting reads.

same

i brought out this pair of shoes and left them next to the door this morning, preparing to leave the house for work. Upon seeing this, my niece quickly grabbed hers and waited impatiently for someone to wear for her. She thought she can follow just because we have the same pair of shoes. She ended up crying when i left without her.

Her cute little feet about three months ago, grown any fatter?
