a year of stamps

Book Design: The 2009 Collection of Singapore Stamps

The final slipcase and cover design look nothing like my first proposal. Nevertheless, it’s still a project i had enjoyed working on.
Available at all Singapore Posts and the Singapore Philatelic Museum.

last meals

i don’t mean to scare you, but these are prints of convicted killers and their selected last meals before execution.

Last Meals exhibition at the tunnel, Esplanade, by Jonathon Kambouris ends today.

itchy and drowsy

i survived through the whole Design Society Conference on Saturday despite feeling itchy (skin) and drowsy from the skin allergy pills i took. The condition is not improving, the bumps and redness resurface a few times each day since Thursday night. Going to see the doctor again tomorrow :-(

Break time. 90% of the crowd must be smoking downstair. The overall conference wasn’t bad, considering that it’s their first one.

“Be humble. You are only as good as your last piece of work.” ~ Theseus Chan

the ‘in’ couple

Herb & Dorothy are one of the biggest collectors of new art in New York (over 4000 pieces). And the amazing thing is they did this out of their working class salaries. They are funny, passionate, enthusiastic and they live only for arts.

i watched the one and only screening at Sinema, Old School and absolutely LOVE it! It’s one of the most inspirating and entertaining documentary film i’ve watched so far. Please try to watch it on dvd to share their passion for arts (and life).

“Herb & Dorothy, tells the extraordinary story of Herbert Vogel, a postal clerk, and Dorothy Vogel, a librarian, who managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history in a very modest means.” ~ Design Film Festival Singapore.

almost blue

i was out for (work) shoot yesterday. Starting from Marina Barrage to One Fullerton to Singapore River to the Padang and finally to St Andrew’s Road. Besides the first two locations i got there by cab, the rest was by walking. Usually this distance would have been nothing, but under the scorching sun, it was no joke. i thought i was going to faint right in the middle of the Padang.

Since morning, i am a bit under the weather, must be the heat. Oh and i believe i’m now a shade darker.

my sky

Doesn’t matter if it’s morning, noon or evening.
Sunny, cloudy or rainy.
The sky is always so beautiful.
Isn’t it?

View from my bedroom window.
In chronological order over the course of 1.5 months.
No editing except slight cropping for a few of the images.

so what if i am free

i hate it when people asked me “Are you free?” and stop short at that. It means that i will be forced to commit in whatever that person has in mind if i said I AM FREE. It’s a trap obviously. Show some respect. Give me a choice. Exercise some basic courtesy. Ask if i would like to be in your plans or activities instead.

Because even if i have all the time in the world, it doesn’t mean i have to do whatever you have in mind.

Another thing i hate is when people deliver ‘extra’. When i am asked ‘dinner’, ‘movies’ or whatever, i expect the regular company. Don’t tell me we’re meeting with so and so only after i agreed to your dinner plans. Or worst, take me to a bunch of strangers at the last minute when i have no choice of backing out. i am not being arrogant or unfriendly, but there are times when i don’t feel like socialising, especially when i had a tired day and just want to relax and have a simple dinner.

In order to avoid the above scenario, i am being forced to say i am busy most of the time.
Sorry i can’t go out with you.

a muar wedding

All we in Muar last Saturday was stopping at the banquet hall, dinner and home.

The trip started well with good traffic condition at Woodlands causeway. Lucky us!

Cloudy weather all day, nice and cool for long distance travelling.

Stopover for lunch at Johor Bahru. Excuse the presentation, but this chicken burger was tender, juicy and yummy!
Did a bit of shopping before driving to Yong Peng (it was on the way to Muar) where my friend bought a big bag of passion fruits. i’ve never seen so many of them in my life before. We got lost a bit after that and finally reached Muar slightly after 7pm, just in time for the wedding.

The lovely couple and the delicious dinner. My favourite is the deep fried bun.
These are almost all the photos i had for this trip. It’s a shame that we didn’t have time to explore Muar.
Till next time.

good morning, lizard

This picture was taken on the first morning of 2010. i woke up, drew the curtains and saw this beautiful light and thought what a great way to start the new year! However, this blissful feeling only lasted for a few seconds. i opened the window and immediately went from heaven to hell. An evil slimy cold-blooded brown baby lizard suddenly dropped on my hand before it landed onto the floor. God knows how scare i am of lizards!!! My mum managed to get rid of it after battling for almost 20 mins.

My body shivers as i type this. That’s how awful the experience was.
