walk into a christmas tree

From the outside, this christmas tree looks like just one of the many that we’ve seen. BUT it is nothing ordinary, walk into one of the entrances to discover what’s inside.

Isn’t it gorgeous?

name the cities

A little survey: Can you help me by naming the six cities in the photos?

Thank you!

This blog has becoming more and more like a boring “work blog”. But that’s what i’ve been doing everyday for the past few months. Just bear with me for a little longer, i’ll be back with more interesting stuff soon. ( h o p e f u l l y )

smelly christmas

No one has any idea that this new type of sticker will emit an unpleasant smell that is similar to plastic. Hopefully passerbys will not be bothered by it.

fine weather + good food + great company

= Bliss.

Rise and shine. Cab. Dim Sum brunch. Chinese tea. Lobby. Discuss ‘where next’. Lift to carpark. Drive. Cafe. Window view. Sea. Latte. Dessert. Walk. Breeze. Autumn Sea. Crooked buildings. Marcelo Fernan lookalike bridge. Crystal clear water. Cafe number two. Latte (again). Drizzle. Sharing beef stew. Picture. Ran into LY. Wedding venue. Big group ‘Bengawan Solo–ntuc–potluck’ kids arrived, ordered nothing, occupied table as if it’s their home. Jaw-drop. Laugh. Bill that took at least 10 mins to arrive. Drive. Train. Search. Design Festival catalogue. Shop. Earrings. Membership card expired. Train. Home.

Sounds like a lot but it was really just a relax day. One of my best weekends :-)

chat. eat. rain. shop. books

A perfect day. Summing up in just five words.

There are so many design books that i was so tempted to get just now. But in the end, i decided to forgo all because i cannot decide which ones to buy. i tried to convince myself that since the busy period is almost over, and there are no upcoming projects for next year yet, i shouldn’t splurge on expensive reference books. In the end, i got myself six novels and one poem book instead :-)))

Kinokuniya is having members’ sale till Sunday. 20% off all books.
can’t help *grinning silly from ear to ear*

supper-ing and square-ing

i’m trying to quit supper-ing. For the past few months, i had supper almost every night. Dinner at home is usually very early at 7pm and by 11pm, i would start to feel hungry. i have to eat something if i want to continue working, usually till 4am. Now that i’m less busy, i should really try to eat lesser.

The busier i am, the fatter i become.

Currently trying to design a picture using just squares. The production guy was almost pleading when i briefed him the other day. There’s going to be a lot of work on his end. BUT i don’t really care, i am still going ahead with the idea :-p

deleted!

i was so upset when i saw this window today. The clients had deleted the ‘background’ of the illustration without my knowledge. The final setup looks so incomplete! i could have adjusted the illustration if i’ve known that they changed their mind and wanted a see-through window instead.

The window area that is see-through is the ‘deleted’ background.

Original image. Initially, the illustration was to be printed on two layers – front on opaque sticker and back, translucent, so as to give it more depth.

Disappointing.

love will tear us apart

Blackjack presents the movie, Control (window design, May 2008)

i love the song, Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division, and even more so after watching the movie, Control. Imagine how thrill i was when asked to design the window last year. Recently, i chanced upon the music video again (from a twitter update... yes, from you!) and was reminded of these windows. So here they are.

a friday that feels like friday, finally

Fried chicken wings, a little too salty. Oh! i am missing the one at Que Pasa & ICB NOW.

Super duper cute mini cheese & beef burgers. Yummy!

Nice... er... construction view.

Overeasy @ One Fullerton.

i left rather early on Friday night because there’s a last minute logo design brief that i need to work on. Still, it was a nice break, at least i got to chill and relax just before the weekend logo design marathon.

i hope you had... are still enjoying a great weekend :-)

TWLOHA♥

The initial idea was to design it like a tattoo-bracelet, joining the tail of l and e, making up as the strap. But it was so difficult to write on my own, let alone writing the words facing the other way round. i ended up wearing an upside down ‘bracelet’ that reads more like lover instead of love. Failed badly.

please do not cry

Please do not cry
Loneliness makes you human
Life is all about enduring loneliness
Even god cry sometimes (and really hard this afternoon)
Don’t wait aimlessly for a phone call that will never come
Please do not cry
– excerpt from the drama, My Sweet Seoul

i wrote it down because it’s sad but at the same time, comforting.

She loves wearing one side of my slippers

My niece knows my morning routine very well – The minute i open my bedroom door, she will run to hold my hand and walk me to the bathroom. And whenever she has the chance, (usually when i was taking my shower) she will wear my slippers and walk around the house. Once i came out from the shower, she will ‘share’ one side of my slippers with me and walk me back to my room where she mimics the way i put on moisturiser and comb my hair. Next, she will walk me to the breakfast table, ready to share my food.

September & October breaks

Time for another round-up.

The last two months was just chaotic. i have no idea how i managed to get all my projects done on time. Currently, i’m left with five smaller projects to go – four Christmas and one fashion event. Oh, and not forgetting my own Christmas project. i really hope i have time for it.

Where is the best place to travel during end December or early January? Somewhere with cool weather and will not be crowded? i can’t wait for another recharge. Any suggestions?

penang: here and there

Last bits of random shots in penang.

The War Museum. “Guinness is good for you”. Really?

Kek Lor Si Temple

Taking a slow moving train up to Penang Hill, i was feeling bored and sleepy.

The cool weather at Penang Hill was what i love most!

View from G Hotel room.

A satisfied local breakfast at the coffeeshop near The Blue Mansion.

Hoarding with advertisements by the roadside.

Pretty patterned flooring outside The Pinang Peranakan Mansion.

Wall painting at Khoo Kongsi.

Cocktail and cheesecake at the chic G Hotel lobby.

Entrance to Canon Square where Khoo Kongsi is.

i don’t think i’ve ever seen barbed wires installed on old residential flats before.

Bicycle outside a temple.

More Penang photos here.
