in his own world

Guess who?

It’s Yoga Lin!

i love the way he sang – totally into the songs, lost in his own world. AND, his live singing was fantastic! He is one of the few chinese music artists that i own a CD... well, i got his first album at least.

My concert kaki and i were chatting about how easy it was to memorise lyrics when we were young (yeah, i am 80 years old this year HA HA). We only need to listen to an album a few times and the lyrics will be stored in the brain magically, totally effortless. But again, there wasn’t much things on our mind then – less work, less worries and we have all the time in the world to sit through listening to an album from beginning till end (ok ok, i admit these are excuses for trying not to admit it has to do with age). Although listening to music is still an everyday activity, but it has moved to more of a background role, ie. background music while working/blogging/travelling.

Well, this is what i’m going to do (very soon i hope), to do nothing but enjoying music on its own.

lazy camomile nights

i have been feeling very guilty for neglecting my stack of books lately. The reading has been replaced by lots of dvd watching (drama series) every night – from Mad Men S3, to Criminal Minds S3 to 5, to Beyond the Realm of Conscience (cantonese), to 24. There are a total of 7 seasons for 24 and i’m only at S2.

i don’t know why but watching dvd and snacking seems to go hand in hand. Imagine if i continue to snack every night, i will be horizontally stretch beyond recognition by the time i finish all the 7 seasons of 24. So in order not to expand too much, i’ve switched to drinking camomile tea... emm... sometimes plus a bit of snacking, every night.

what’s in your bag?

Work (meeting).
If freelancing in agency (very seldom now), i will usually have my laptop and wacom tablet/pen too.

Play (shopping/movie/museum/lunch/dinner/almost everywhere).
Almost the same as work. Replaced thumb drive and namecards with lipstick and recycle bag.

Yoga.
Sometimes with my cosmetic pouch if i plan to go out after that.

Dinner/coffee (usually for no-hassle one stop venue).
i must have at least five of the same Kiehl’s lipbalm, some in tub packaging, colourless. My lips are dry and i use it whenever i remember, usually several times a day and before i sleep.

Grocery shopping or quick lunch/dinner near my place.
i have two of these Baby Roo totes from Japan, the other one is in black with a cool looking dog print, both for at least six years now. The handles have turned yellow and it’s quite embarrassing to bring out. But i just couldn’t stop using them.

a year of stamps

Book Design: The 2009 Collection of Singapore Stamps

The final slipcase and cover design look nothing like my first proposal. Nevertheless, it’s still a project i had enjoyed working on.
Available at all Singapore Posts and the Singapore Philatelic Museum.

last meals

i don’t mean to scare you, but these are prints of convicted killers and their selected last meals before execution.

Last Meals exhibition at the tunnel, Esplanade, by Jonathon Kambouris ends today.

itchy and drowsy

i survived through the whole Design Society Conference on Saturday despite feeling itchy (skin) and drowsy from the skin allergy pills i took. The condition is not improving, the bumps and redness resurface a few times each day since Thursday night. Going to see the doctor again tomorrow :-(

Break time. 90% of the crowd must be smoking downstair. The overall conference wasn’t bad, considering that it’s their first one.

the ‘in’ couple

Herb & Dorothy are one of the biggest collectors of new art in New York (over 4000 pieces). And the amazing thing is they did this out of their working class salaries. They are funny, passionate, enthusiastic and they live only for arts.

i watched the one and only screening at Sinema, Old School and absolutely LOVE it! It’s one of the most inspirating and entertaining documentary film i’ve watched so far. Please try to watch it on dvd to share their passion for arts (and life).

“Herb & Dorothy, tells the extraordinary story of Herbert Vogel, a postal clerk, and Dorothy Vogel, a librarian, who managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history in a very modest means.” ~ Design Film Festival Singapore.

almost blue

i was out for (work) shoot yesterday. Starting from Marina Barrage to One Fullerton to Singapore River to the Padang and finally to St Andrew’s Road. Besides the first two locations i got there by cab, the rest was by walking. Usually this distance would have been nothing, but under the scorching sun, it was no joke. i thought i was going to faint right in the middle of the Padang.

Since morning, i am a bit under the weather, must be the heat. Oh and i believe i’m now a shade darker.

my sky

Doesn’t matter if it’s morning, noon or evening.
Sunny, cloudy or rainy.
The sky is always so beautiful.
Isn’t it?

View from my bedroom window.
